Housewarming
Becomes First Internet Fundraising Webcast
SAN JOSE,
CA , March 19, 1999 -- Leukemia
Society of America's (LSA) Team in Training athlete Sara Mazer today
announced that she will host the first ever Internet fundraising
webcast. The Saturday, March 20, 1999 event allows people on the
Internet to join the festivities in a virtual fundraising event
through online donation and live streaming video at the event website
http://www.studentshelp.org/give/.
Her housewarming party grew quickly when Mazer, encouraged by friends
from the Silicon Valley high-tech scene, opened her house and she
became a one-woman fundraising event. Mazer is a cyclist in training
for the 100 mile Century Ride in Lake Tahoe, California on June
6, 1999. Team in Training offers professional team training under
the guidance of world class athletes and travel to national events
in return for a volunteer athlete's commitment to raise funds in
the fight against leukemia.
Art and technology merge at the first ever Internet fundraising
webcast and art showing. Donations come from the sale of art from
renowned Bay Area artist Mattison Fitzgerald and online donation
provided by San Jose company Entango Corporation. Several Silicon
Valley companies are donating time and services to help Mazer bring
together this complex event. The Good Guys is contributing electronics
equipment, NTT (SoftwareVision2) is providing the live Internet
video feed, StudentsHelp4Free is hosting the website, and additional
assistance is provided by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and Night
Owl Camera.
The guest list is a who's who of world class athletes and coaches
including Olympians George Mount (cyclist and LSA Team in Training
cycling program head coach) and Paul Quirke (shotput), Olympic trialists
Barb Acosta (10,000m and marathon) and two time Bay-to-Breakers
winner Christine Boyle-Kennedy, and Coach Parks the coach to former
49ers Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott.
Mazers house promises to be the hot spot in Silicon Valley as geeks,
athletes and art-lovers from the Bay Area heat up this house-warming
turned fundraiser. In addition millions of people from around the
world have a chance to attend in cyberspace and support this unique
athlete.
Mazer will collect donations from online supporters 24 hours a day,
7 days a week beginning at the housewarming and continuing through
the June 6, 1999 event in Tahoe.
